My Other Computer is a Loom 2025

Both looms and computers rely on pattern, structure, and the transformation of information into form, creating a shared language that has connected these technologies throughout history. Invented in 1804, the Jacquard loom's punch card system directly inspired Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine and Ada Lovelace's pioneering programming work. Translating traditional drafting notation into code, my piece demonstrates how looms and computers transform sequential inputs into complex patterns through repetition. As a textile artist who typically works with floor loom weaving and dyeing, this digital work displays my love for complex weave drafting in a contemporary medium.
